About Us
Baby Blue Bee Bunnies is a non profit, constituted organisation which helps rabbits and owners across the whole of Scotland. The rescue itself was founded in January 2017 by husband and wife team Richard & Jeniveeve with the aim to rescue, rehabilitate rabbits and find them their forever home. They realised there was a massive need for rabbit rescues in Scotland and their specific ethos set them apart from any other rescues.
We are the only vegan rabbit specific rescue in Scotland and fully licensed by South Lanarkshire council license number 483437. We are also very much a welfare organisation, with a large part of our work in education and ethical activism. We care so much about each rabbit who lives with us and we focus so much energy and time into ensuring each of them get the perfect home that fits them. When the rabbits stay with us or a foster carer while they await their forever home, they are treated as if one of our own precious family members and each of them has access to lots of space (more than the recommended welfare amount) and lots of time, affection and enrichment. They are all put onto the optimum diet and as spend a lot of time getting to know them and engaging with them. Either at the rescue or at foster, they are in someones home with people all the time. They are never kept in a cage/hutch or left alone for periods of time like many rescues. Our rescue is a 'home from home' environment for the rabbits. They all have the luxuries we would expect them to have in their future homes as well.
We have fantastic volunteer team across Scotland who help with various roles and are there to help with anything you need in your adoption journey including 24/7 support and advice during and after adoption. Learn more about getting involved and joining the team here.

Our Ethos
Our specific ethos is to ensure the homes the rabbits go to are their forever homes and we pride ourselves on supporting owners which results in rabbits not being returned to the rescue. We are the only rabbit rescue in Scotland to have a dedicated rabbit behaviourist who works one to one with each rabbit to assess them, to see which type of home would suit them best and also to assess the temperament type of each rabbit to then match them well to other rabbit companions.
We do not take the "take one and try it" approach or the "conveyor belt" rescue approach. We ensure a perfect match the first time, taking special consideration of the owner and rabbits involved and rabbits are not shoved out the door quickly. Instead, rabbits enjoy a "home from home" while they stay with us and we are in no rush to have any of them adopted. The focus is on the right home. All rabbits stay with us a minimum of 4 weeks when they enter the rescue, to ensure that they have had all the appropriate vet and health checks and been properly assessed. We will not adopt them to a home they are not suited to and we do not allow people to pick a rabbit they like the look of and simply adopt them if it is not in the best interests of the rabbit or the right home for them.
We are a completely vegan run rescue and the welfare of the rabbits is our highest priority. We will never put a happy or healthy rabbit to sleep and extensive vet treatment will always be given regardless of cost including CT scans. This may mean we have to turn away other rabbits on our waiting list, however the rabbits who are with us are our top priority and we will ensure that they always get the best care.

What makes us an “ethical rescue”?
We comply to the BABBA ethical rescue standards and are recognised as an approved Ethical Rabbit Rescue. We will also only work with other ethical rescues.
– Our rabbits are all neutered and fully vaccinated. – Our rabbits are all bonded with other rabbits, either at the rescue or in their new home. – Home-checks are carried out and a minimum space of 60sq ft is required in order to adopt from us. – We have a strict no-kill policy. – We do not receive money from pet retailers and rely entirely on public donations. – We are strongly opposed to the breeding and selling of rabbits. |
What to expect when adopting from us?
What we will do:
What we won’t do:
- Ensure there are no surprises when you adopt, we know our rabbits inside and out before we pass them for adoption.
- Tell you a TON about the rabbit/s you have been matched with, you’ll get to know their background, their behaviour, their likes and dislikes.
- Match you with the right rabbit/s that will fit in well with you, your family and your home using our unique matching process – this takes into consideration experience level of the person, family members in the home, time and work commitments, additional animals in the home, location and exotic vet accessibility and most importantly the type and temperaments of the rabbit/s you already have to ensure they will work together well as a team and will make a good compatible pair/trio/group.
- Take into consideration your limitations and what type of rabbit/s you can take on.
- Always support our adopters and be there to help our rabbits at any time through their life.
What we won’t do:
- Allow you to pick and choose a rabbit you want or match you with a rabbit that does not match your criteria.
- Match you with rabbits based purely on looks/aesthetic (ie “I want the cute one” or “I want a grey lop one”). We are not a designer shop for rabbits, our rabbits need adopted into loving, caring homes with people who care about who they are, not what they look like.
- Allow our rabbits to live alone.
- Be unrealistic or tell you what you want to hear. We are here to guide and support you to ensure you can meet all of the welfare needs of rabbits. If you are simply unable to, we will not lower our standards.
Testimonials
Sarah Gold, September 2020:
"Our family started looking at how we might become a bunny family a few months ago. We had heard positive things about adopting a bunny from a rescue centre and came across BBBB and I am so glad we did!
From the outset we received so much support it was fantastic. We were set up with 2 volunteers via a WhatsApp group and they were so helpful answering all our questions. It became very clear just how important it was to them that adoptions were successful and the needs of the buns were always put first. They talked us through everything we would need in terms of set up and what a bunny would need to be happy with us. On their advice we created a lovely home and decided that we would adopt a pair of buns rather than just the one and I am so pleased we did that-it is so obvious how much our buns love each other I can't imagine just having the one now!
When we were ready we were contacted by Jeniveeve to discuss which bunnies would be best for us. She put alot of thought into finding the right match for both us and the bunnies! We discussed more details about the care needs of this particular pair and within 2 weeks we got to go and collect them!
Our amazing bunnies Blanca and Bandanna have settled in beautifuly. They are such happy and healthy bunnies and love spending time with us. The care spent matching us with the right bunnies really has paid off. We felt very confident that our bunnies were in excellant health and had been so well looked after. It was great to know so much about them and their characters before we adopted them.
We would definitely recommend using BBBB if you are thinking of adopting."

Sara Chan, August 2020:
"I met the BBBB team at the end of last year at a festival and after seeing the amazing work they do I decided to get involved and become a bunny foster carer. I have since fostered for the rescue until each of the rabbits found their forever home. We were given so much support and education from the rescue to ensure that we felt confident looking after the bunnies. After having fostered a few rabbits my family and I decided we wanted to adopt some house bunnies into our family. Jeniveeve carefully matched our bunnies perfectly and bonded three rabbits together for us. When they came home they had a clear care plan in place to ensure their safety settling in to our home with the BBBB always on hand to support us with any questions or worries. I would highly recommend anyone interested in getting rabbits to adopt from BBBB where you will get amazing support, information and beautiful bunnies that deserve their forever homes."

"First rescue I’ve come across where you see genuine passion - not only for the well-being of animals in their care, but also trying to debunk misinformation out there in order to help rabbit parents give their babies a happier and healthier life. Honest, straightforward, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate rescue. All about the bunnies and not about the moneys. 10/10"
