Our grooming service

What makes our grooming service unique is our deep understanding of rabbits as a species and their specialist care. With the rise in extreme breeds in Scotland, many rabbits are now being bred to have high maintenance coat types that require a lot of grooming. No longer do they only moult "twice per year", with dense coated breeds like mini (holland) lops continually blowing and regrowing new undercoats.

Being nervous prey animals, rabbits often dislike handling and can be at risk of hurting themselves when their care givers attempt to groom them. Not to mention the side eye, thumps and grudge they take after! Having such thin skin puts them at risk of being cut by a novice who attempts to trim the coat of their long haired rabbit and these rabbits can quickly become extremely matted and felted.

We take care to assess what coat type your rabbit has and understand what tools and techniques are required for that specific coat. We have catagorised 7 coat types in rabbits, all requiring different levels of care and maintanance.

  • Small bum trim if needed (this will always be done if rearguard is being applied)

Total Appointment time: 1 hour per bun
Cost: £15 per bun

Standard/Dense coated package: this is suitable for most breeds including dense coated mini lops, standard lops, lionheads and other coat types.
  • Full professional health check including ears, full mouth dental check, weighing and body condition scoring
  • Nail clipping
  • Full body undercoat removal and tail + feet de-matting
  • Half clip which involves clipping the underside bum, stomach and legs and any "skirts"
  • Coat conditioning using Pet Remedy
Total Appointment time: 1.5-2 hours per bun
Cost: £25 per bun

Long/double coated package: this is suitable for double maned lionheads (teddy coat types), cashmere lops or angoras.
  • Full professional health check including ears and full mouth dental check, weighing and body condition scoring
  • Nail clipping
  • Full body hand scissoring, shaping and styling
  • Coat conditioning using Pet Remedy
Total Appointment time: 3-4 hours per bun

Full coat de-pelting: this is for wool breed rabbits who have ended up with completely felted coats.
This is an extremely intense process which requires incredible care and precision as the entire pelt must be removed by hand scissoring from the skin. Usually the skin underneath is inflamed and requires a soothing treatment afterwards.
Time: Can take up to 16 hours to remove the full coat and may require overnight stay to do in sections
Cost: £120

Additional Services / Treatments

Rearguard - £33.00 (or £5 to apply if you provide your own Rearguard as part of your vet care plan)
This is an essential product used to protect rabbits against flystrike and should be done throughout the Spring and Summer months. It is a solution applied to the bum, back, legs and tail and allowed to soak in lasting up to 10 weeks per application.

If adding this onto spa packages, we like the buns to remain with us all day so that we can closely monitor them and give them lots of fresh forage to distract them from grooming themselves. It also allows them to relax before their car journey home. The option of an overnight stay after rearguard application is available also for an additional £10.

What people say about our grooming days:
Buns are so cared for, wouldn't take then anywhere else.
Thank you
So patient, kind and understanding. Very "rabbity" people, who do an amazing job at promoting animal welfare and looking after all the buns.
What can I say, I wouldn't think of going to anyone else to get my bunnies treated. Jenivieve is so caring and knows my bunnies better than anyone. I will be back in August for their follow up treatment.
What can I say, would only have Jeniveeve treat my 2 babies. The care, knowledge and love Jeniveeve has is unmeasurable.
Will be back next year.
