Specially Selected Hays From Across Scotland
At Baby Blue Bee Bunnies we are highly focused on rabbit diet and nutrition, as the wrong diet is the leading cause of health issues in pet rabbits. As rabbits are fibrevores, the key to optimum health of your bunnies involved eating as much hay as possible, their diet should consist of around 90% hays. For that reason, we travel across Scotland trialing hays, hand selecting the best hays and grasses and working with farmers to improve quality and nutritional value of their hay. We believe in feeding your rabbits a good variety of hays and grasses due to the variation in nutritional values and to add variety and textures for your buns mental well being.
We couldn't have better 'guinea pigs' to try our hays out on than all of the rabbits and guinea pigs here. With around 100 different rabbits coming in and out to us every month, of all sorts, ages and 'fussiness' we know that these hays are loved by all bunnies.
If your rabbit isn't enjoying or eating enough hay the main reasons are due to:

We are now opening our hand picked hays up to purchase online UK wide, not just by collection. Your bunnies can now start chomping at the bit to get their paws on them! We want this hay to be available to all rabbit owners at an affordable price, as often good hay can be pricey and pet shop bought hay is no good for rabbits.

From Grass to Hay
Sweet green orchard hay - from the Lanarkshire regionThis hay is finer and great for all buns. It is particularly enjoyed by buns with no front teeth. It is dark green in colour, and has been barn dried to preserve its nutrients. The strands are long and sweet smelling. This hay has a lower fibre content than Timothy and meadow hay.
|
Timothy fine blend - from the Lothian regionThis hay is a mixture of Timothy and meadow grasses and is great for buns with sensitive digestive systems or for those who have pairs/groups where some like thicker strands and some prefer the finer strands as this is perfectly mixed. The hay is softer than the stalky Timothy hay and has very long strands. It is a mid green colour and has a very high fibre content.
|
Oat Hay - from the Aberdeen RegionThis oat hay is great for variety and has lots of seed heads on it. It is extremely thick and stalky and a golden green colour. Brilliant for wearing spurs down but doesn't have a huge Vitamin content and can be quite fattening. Shouldn't be fed alone without offering additional other types of hay.
|
Meadow hay - from the Ayrshire regionThis hay is fine and very long stranded. This hay is extremely low in protein and good for older bunnies or those who need to lose weight. It is paler in colour and not as rich as some of the other hays. It makes for excellent bedding hay and for using to line litter trays.
|
Stalky Timothy hays - from the Dumfrieshire and Stirling regionsThis hay is very stalky, crunchy timothy hay and pale green in colour. The strands are long and it contains lots of Timothy seed heads. The fibre content of this hay is high and is ideal for feeding 24/7 and excellent for keeping dental spurs at bay.
