Bollenhut
About
Age: 2 years
Breed: Netherland Dwarf x Lionhead
Size: Dwarf (very small)
Gender: Female
Bollenhut is our littlest bun looking for a home, at a mere 1.1kg. Although she is small and half lion, she isn't at all sassy - she's as sweet as sugar! This little lady has come to us after losing her companion, and is very desperate for rabbit company again. She is a lower hierarchal temperament type and would make a great bottom bun for a trio/group where she can get a lot of reassurance and guidance. At very minimum she needs a kind and confident leader who can look after her and let her copy them.
Sweet little sugarpants enjoys exploring when she thinks you're not looking and her favourite place is in her little wooden bridge. She loves to poke her nose out when you call her and go hunting for a snack in her hay. She is very playful and enjoys her willow balls, stacking cups and most of all - her little digging pit! She's not a fan of the sunshine and will often wait until the sun goes down to start her zoomies and playtime.
BH adores nose rubs and a gentle, kind human who will let her come to them at her own pace. She takes time to build trust up with you but is so unbelievably adorable and gentle, it's impossible not to fall in love with her and build that connection with her. She rocks a fantastic mullet and when she stares up at you timidly with her big brown eyes, you can't help but melt and want to mother her.

Home Criteria
Bollenhut prefers a calm environment and wouldn't like a very busy household. She would be happy with a couple, single human or a one (rabbit savvy) child household who would be very respectful of her gentle and timid nature.
She would be equally happy indoors or in a shed style enclosure outside but she doesn't like very exposed windy runs/aviaries. She is very content being puppy penned in so would be content in a restricted environment, but equally she is very well behaved when roaming.
Bollenhut is very nervous of cats but has lived in a home with a dog since she was a kit. With careful introductions and separate living spaces, she could live in the same home so long as she was not forced to interact. Given her tiny size, any home with a dog would need approved by our Behaviourist.

Health & Care Needs
Bollenhut has a short coat other than her little mane and has low grooming needs.
She managed well under GA and tolerates handling and health checking fantastically.
Bollenhut has chronic rhinitis, a condition that causes inflammation around the nasal cavity which causes her upper respiratory symptom's (sneezing and nasal discharge) which are very severe. We have screened her and done 3 rounds of deep nasal swabs which have all shown she does not carry any pathogens and has no contagious infection, however her symptoms will not completely go away and need managed medically and environmentally. The adopter would need to learn how to nebulise her and learn the routine we have for her which helps as well as have a good rabbit vet to monitor this long term.
She has no other medical conditions and is in good health and body condition otherwise, she has also never had GI stasis and is a good hay eater.
