Bertha

About

Age: 2-4 years (estimated)
Breed: Mix
Gender: Female
Size: Medium

Bertha is a gentle girl with a sad story and we now want her to enjoy the peaceful life that she deserves. Bertha was rescued by a member of our team having been passed around and living in a tiny 3ft box hutch with no space or enrichment, because of the homes she has had previous we don't know her exact age but she is an adult female. Sadly this has left her quite reclusive and with no muscle and we have been working with her to encourage her to explore the world around her. Bertha is quiet and confident, she isn't an anxious bun or nervous however she does like to take things at her own pace and takes time settling into new places. She doesn't like exploring much and prefers to stay close to her 'hub' area with her things around her. She is very chilled and likes to snooze most of her days away. We have been encouraging her to play with toys and she now enjoys throwing her little hay baskets around and loves any toy so long as it's stuffed with hay.

If there is one thing this girl loves, it's hay. She prefers hay over anything, even treats! She is such a darling and loves you just sitting with her until she feels safe to come for head rubs. Hand feeding her helps build that bond with her and she will get excited about feeding times and this is when she snuggles down with you for strokes and affection.

Bertha really needs other bun friend/s to help her feel more like a rabbit. She may be unsure initially during bonding but will learn she can get snuggles from her own kind and it will help her to explore more. She would make a great companion for a bunny who enjoys cuddling or one who needs help eating more hay.

Home Criteria

Bertha would be best in a home with someone who is happy for her to do her own thing with another bun/s and take the time to build a relationship over time with her. She is absolutely fine with dogs and cats however is not comfortable in 'human busy homes' so ideally one person or a couple would be best for her to live with. She does enjoy being in the house but would need a little area that's hers where she can retreat to and plod around. A shed type home outside would also be ok but she would need lots of bun friends and it will take her longer to build a bond with you if she is outdoors. If you would rather her be a 'rabbits rabbit' then an enclosed outdoor home would also work for her.

Special Requirements

Bertha doesn't have a lot of muscle despite us trying to build it up with her due to hutch lock, so she will be at an increased risk of early arthritis. She needs a comfy space for her joints and not a hard floor for her to hop around on.
